Dr. Les McCabe

Les McCabe is the President of the Institute for Shipboard Education and is an ex-officio member of the board.


les.gifLes earned a BA from the University of California Irvine, a MSW from the University of Washington, an MPA from Seattle University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. McCabe worked for the Casey Family Program in Child Welfare prior to joining the Institute for Shipboard Education in 1987, where he had served as Chief Operating Officer.

He has also participated in several Semester at Sea voyages as Executive Dean. Dr. McCabe's educational focus on the development of a global perspective in college students is evident in his research and publications. In addition, he has actively worked in the area of safety and study abroad, and conducts training sessions and seminars based on his experience.

Memberships include the Inter-organizational Task Force on Safety and Study Abroad, Academy of Certified Social Workers, National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, Association for International Education Administrators and related study abroad associations. Les first sailed on the fall 1982 Semester At Sea voyage.
