About The Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE)

The Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE) exists to provide global education through shipboard learning and field experiences in multiple countries around the world.

Tracing its roots to 1963, ISE administers the multi-country study abroad program Semester at Sea as well as Enrichment Voyages, a travel and learn program, and the Forum on Global Engagement. The mission of ISE is to educate individuals with the global understanding necessary to address the challenges of our interdependent world.

Our unique approach to international education integrates interdisciplinary coursework, comparative study of countries and cultures around the world, and hands-on field exploration for meaningful engagement in the global community. ISE is a 501(c)(3) educational non profit based in Charlottesville, Virginia.
