Scholarship Description

The Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE) is pleased to offer up to two full scholarships for students attending historically black colleges and universities (HBCU’s) to participate in spring or fall Semester at Sea voyages. All participants receive a full semester’s worth of undergraduate credits from the University of Virginia.

ISE believes that international exposure is a critical element in today’s undergraduate education, offering students a real-life global education experience that will give them an edge in this highly competitive job market. The program is open to students, regardless of their major.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the scholarship, you must:

  • Maintain full-time undergraduate enrollment at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU)
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (all majors are eligible)
  • Demonstrated leadership through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities

Application Process:

To apply for this scholarship, complete the application below. Be sure to complete the essay question about how your background at a Historically Black College or University will enhance your contribution to the voyage community. Please also include two (2) letters of recommendation from an academic reference at your home institution and a community service reference.
