Scholarship Description

The Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE) is pleased to offer a $10,000 scholarship for students attending historically black colleges and universities (HBCU’s) or Predominately Black Institutions to participate in spring or fall Semester at Sea voyages. All participants receive a full semester’s worth of undergraduate credits from the University of Virginia.

ISE believes that international exposure is a critical element in today’s undergraduate education, offering students a real-life global education experience that will give them an edge in this highly competitive job market. The program is open to students, regardless of their major.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the scholarship, you must:

  • Maintain full-time undergraduate enrollment at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) or Predominately Black Institution (PBI) 
  • Demonstrated leadership through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities

Submission of Scholarship Application:

This scholarship requires you to video blog throughout your voyage.  Please answer the essay question in a 2 – 3 minute video and email to scholarships2.sailonsas@blogger.com.  The attachment must be no larger than 2 MB.  Include the following in the body of the email: name, voyage, home school, and HBCU scholarship.
