Admission FAQ

After admission what do I need to do to prepare my child for Semester at Sea?

The most important steps for you to take in helping your child to prepare for Semester at Sea are attending to the necessary vaccinations, securing proper visas, and making sure that your child has an updated passport. In the weeks following your child's admission you will receive a variety of mailings from us outlining exactly what you need to do.

What visas do I need and how do I obtain them?

Visa requirements vary depending on the countries included on the voyage itinerary. For most voyages students typically need to secure 2 or 3 visas. After you child has been admitted you will receive detailed information concerning how to obtain the necessary visas.

What are the passport requirements?

There are two passport requirements that must be attended to. The first is to ensure that your child's passport is valid up until and through six months after the conclusion of their voyage. The second is that there are at least eight blank pages available for customs stamps in each country. We also recommend that you make multiple copies of your child's passport for use in the event of an emergency.

What vaccinations/medications are necessary or recommended?

You will be informed of the vaccinations necessary for your child's particular itinerary well in advance of departure. We suggest that you visit the website www.cdc.gov which will provide recommendations for other vaccinations depending on region. Additionally, it is wise to confer with a travel clinic or physician that specializes in travel vaccinations and medications before departure.
