Email and Internet FAQ



Can I connect my laptop to the Internet?

All public areas of the vessel can access the intranet as well as the internet via wireless communication. A wireless signal may also be detected in some cabins. Please refer to separate instruction for configuring your wireless laptop or seek technical advice from the computer center.



Can I connect to the Internet from my cabin?

Only some cabins are able to access the wireless system on the ship. You can connect from public areas such as the library, purser's square, dining areas, and union.



Can I send/receive attachments?

You cannot send attachments using your shipboard, free email account; however, you can send attachments using a personal email account.



Is there email on board?

For Semester at Sea voyages, free email accounts are set up that enable you to communicate with others on the ship as well as family and friends back home. These are text-only email accounts; you must use your pesronal Gmail, Yahoo, etc. account to send emails with photos or attachments due to bandwidth limitations on the ship. Internet access is available by setting up an account.



What is the cost for connecting to the internet to browse the web?

Lifelong Learners will receive an initial allotment of Internet minutes equivalent to approximately 30 minutes of complimentary Internet time per sea day. When an individual has exhausted the initial allotment, they may purchase an Internet plan from the Purser’s Desk.

A note about unlimited-minute packages: Unlimited minute packages are available for purchase but they may only be activated on an individual’s personal computer/laptop. Participants who do not bring laptops will not be able to purchase unlimited packages. A restricted number of unlimited packages will be available. Due to increased demands on the ship’s Internet systems, all accounts will be limited to a daily transfer of 100 MB.
