Can I connect my laptop to one of the lab printers to print?
Yes, PC-based as well as Apple laptops can connect to one of the printers in the lab as long as they have a USB, Parallel, or Ethernet port.
Should I bring my laptop?
If you own a laptop computer you are encouraged to bring it with you. You will be able to use your laptop to connect to the wireless network in order to access onboard Intranet resources (including printers) as well as the Internet. If your computer is not equipped with a wireless antenna, a separate wireless card may be necessary. Plug adapters, diskettes, Zip disks, wireless cards, and USB flash disks (thumb drives) are available for purchase in the Campus Store. If you decide to bring your laptop, also bring with you the following resources:- Disks with the current version of your operating system plus any original
- Any installation disks that came with your computer
- Back-up disks with the current versions of the programs you use (just in case they need to be reinstalled)
- Any special cables and drivers to external devices you might have such as Zip drives, digital cameras, and floppy drives.
What is the electrical power (voltage) on the ship?
The ship's power supply in all public areas is 220-volt with European-style outlets. Most laptop models can use either 110-volt or 220-volt, however, you might need a European (two prong round) plug adapter.

What resources are available in the Computer Lab?
The Computer Lab is an extension of the library and is designed to be used primarily for word processing and Internet access. This facility is available for academic use to the entire shipboard community on a 24-hour basis. Each of the 20 computers is configured with Windows XP, Microsoft Office XP, DVD Player (with a limited number of CD burners), and USB ports. External floppy drives and Zip drives are available for loan. The lab is also equipped with several HP LaserJet printers that are available from any of the computers inside the lab as well as individual laptops via wireless connection.
When is the Computer Lab open?
It is open to all participants, for academic use, at all times.
