Affording Semester at Sea

In the past two years the Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE) has more than doubled student aid to $3.25 million.

In 2009, ISE awarded nearly 1,100 scholarships and grants ranging from $1,000 to $13,000.

For thousands of students, financial aid from ISE has helped to make their Semester at Sea voyage a reality. Federal grants and financial aid from your home institution may also apply.

Initially I had some doubts as to whether or not I could afford Semester at Sea. But I applied for and received an ISE scholarship, and that helped bridge the gap. Now the voyage of a lifetime has gone from being a distant dream to an unbelievable reality.

Careful cabin category selection and strategic choices with the International Field Program options can help students keep costs down and maximize program affordability. Certain field trip requirements can even be taken at no cost.

More than 40 percent of our participants received grants or scholarships from the Institute for Shipboard Education last year. More than 60 percent received some form of financial aid either from ISE or from their home school or both.

We recognize that a study abroad experience is a significant investment, but it's one of the best possible investments in your future.
