Parent Events & Parent Trip
Pre-Voyage Reception
Hosted by the SAS Parents Council, this event occurs the evening before the voyage sets sail and, due to space limitations, is limited to parents and family members only. Students may not attend this event. Typically held aboard the MV Explorer, it includes guided tours of the ship(including classrooms, cabins, and facilities); a chance to meet with voyage faculty and staff; and remarks from a SAS senior staff member, the captain, the executive and academic deans, and a representative from the SAS Parents Council.
An electronic invitation will be sent to the "emergency contacts" listed for confirmed students approximately six weeks prior the reception. To attend, RSVPs and advance reservations are required because of port and ship security protocols. We are unable to guarantee boarding for anyone who has not registered by the RSVP deadline. Dates for upcoming pre-voyage receptions are below as follows.

For planning purposes, receptions are typically scheduled to begin at either 6 or 7 pm with the program beginning at 7 or 8 pm respectively. It may take time to enter security at the port; please plan accordingly.
Post-Voyage Reception
This event occurs the evening before the ship returns to the U.S. at the end of the voyage. The reception takes place at the hotel recommended to parents by our travel agent, BCD Travel. If the hotel is unable to accommodate the reception, we may schedule a breakfast program following the ship's arrival at or near the port.
During the Post-Voyage Reception, we will celebrate your son or daughter's voyage and provide information about the debarkation process the following day. In addition, a member of the SAS Parents Council will provide insights on lessons learned in welcoming your child home. This is a great opportunity to meet other parents and share stories you have heard from your son and daughter during their voyage. Dates for upcoming post-voyage receptions are below as follows.

Parent Trip
Semester at Sea provides a unique opportunity for parents to join their students during one of the ports of call during their voyage.
Previous parent trips have traveled to Thailand and Viet Nam, Peru, Africa, Italy, and Turkey. Participants will meet and travel with other parents and a tour guide prior to the ship's arrival. Information about the parent trip for your son or daughter's voyage will be sent to you by mail.
