University of Virginia

Priorities

The SAS/ISE Board of Trustees has endorsed a strategic plan that will focus on the quality and diversity of our students and faculty, the strength of our university outreach and enrollment, our partnership with new NGO's and other educational groups, and our determination to sustain our commitment to the highest standards of safety in shipboard operations.

Given these new directions, Semester at Sea has outlined four special funds aligned with our greatest strategic needs to which you may designate your gifts for immediate support in this fiscal year!

  • The Lighthouse Fund: casts the light and the advantages of a Semester at Sea experience to a wider, more diverse audience of potential student and faculty voyagers through a much better website, a stronger admission and university outreach program, and improved marketing and visibility.
  • The Harbor Fund: ensures that our ship, as our floating campus around the world, is well maintained, well equipped for safety, technology, and student and faculty needs.
  • The Voyager Fund: provides student financial assistance through need-based and merit-based scholarships, and faculty salary and field experience stipends, to ensure that each and every Semester at Sea voyage is a community of the most capable, and committed students and faculty possible.
  • The Alumni Fund: provides opportunities for our alumni, parents, and lifelong learners to stay involved through chapter activities, reunion voyages, ShipMates, and special events.
