The Challenges of Egypt

For many SAS students Egypt was both a blessing and a challenge. The blessings focused on experiencing Egypt of the past: the pyramids, the temples, the royal tombs. The challenges centered on experiencing Egypt of the present: extreme poverty, environmental blight, and unfamiliar codes of behavior, especially regarding women. Yet, as is often the case, difficult cultural experiences provided extensive food for thought for our students and provided many of them with their greatest learning experiences thus far on the voyage.

New Audio Slideshow: The Gods Were Smiling In Greece

Even after departing Greece, students and faculty continued to reflect on their experiences. This slideshow with audio offers some contemplations on the archaic Greek smile, the origins of democracy, dance, and the Aegean Sea.
