Be part of the emotional send-off! This slideshow with audio depicts the June 15 embarkation of the Summer 2008 voyage from Halifax, Nova Scotia: the 96th voyage of Semester at Sea. The Summer 2008 voyage community traverses the Kiel Canal, a 61-mile-long waterway that connects the North and Baltic Seas. Get a first-hand lesson on how the canal works and see the sites our participants see as they take this historic shortcut through Germany.

Semester at Sea participants visit the world's fourth oldest zoo in Antwerp, explore a medieval castle in Brugges, and get a personal tour of the European Union. They also seem to delight in the country's gourmet waffles, french fries, and chocolates.

The Semester at Sea community recently explored the port of Naples, Italy and traveled to the ancient ruins of Pompeii. Be a part of the learning experience as participants get a feel for Italian culture and remarkable Roman history.

The Semester at Sea community was recently rerouted to the port of Alexandria, Egypt and traveled to the Great Pyramids, the Sphinx, and the great bazaar of ancient Cairo.
