Day 1 Photo Gallery: June 10, 2010

Nearly 300 participants, many alumni of Semester at Sea, boarded the MV Explorer in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for the 2010 Forum on Global Engagement. Distinguished speakers, including Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and Mr. Julian Bond, were hosted by President Les McCabe and the Board of Trustees for a welcome reception and dinner. Opening remarks were delivered by Vice President for Development and Alumni Affairs Megan Murphy, Captain Jeremy Kingston, and Board of Trustees President Rick Rickertsen. Former Board President Richard Pritzlaff was honored during the program for his years of leadership and service.

Day 2 Photo Gallery: June 11, 2010

FGE participants enjoyed smooth Atlantic seas and a full day of provocative programming. Board of Trustees member Jeff Glazer introduced speaker Julian Bond, who delivered the address "The Future of the American Movement for Civil Rights" to a standing-room-only audience in the Union, taking questions for more than 30 minutes. Following lunch, BOT member Chris Foreman introduced the "The Challenges of Sustainability," a three-member panel consisting of presenters Mike Maniates, Richard Pritzlaff, and Phoebe Crisman. Participants continued the discussion during a reception hosted by the SAS Alumni Association Board of Trustees and an outdoor barbecue. SAS alumnus Adrian Belic presented his feature-length documentary "Beyond the Call" to close out the day's activities.

Day 3 Photo Gallery: June 12, 2010

Justice Sandra Day O'Connor kicked off day three with an intriguing presentation about her life on the U.S. Supreme Court. She took questions from the audience and delighted all participants with her sharp, no-nonsense style. The afternoon included an address from President Les McCabe entitled, "Falling Behind: U.S. Barriers to Global Education" followed by three break-out sessions hosted by members of the Board of Trustees and the ISE senior leadership team. Alumna Donna Guenther described her work in global health during a special session entitled, "Forgotten Faces of AIDS." The evening included a reception and dinner followed by a remarkable performance by the Klemperer Trio.

Day 4 Photo Gallery: June 13, 2010

On the final day of the Forum on Global Engagement, Justice Sandra Day O'Connor told participants about her latest project: "Bringing Civics Back to School". Sir Christopher Ball presented "Global Education: Does it Matter?" followed by a discussion with panelists Molly Corbett Broad, Rosalyn Berne, John Burkoff, and Loren Crabtree. Governor Gerald Baliles gave a multimedia presentation entitled "The War Powers".
