Field Lab: Sounds of Tokyo

Students from Professor Greg Seib’s Travel Writing class went on a field lab in Tokyo while the MV Explorer was docked in Yokohama. The students were instructed to focus on their sense of hearing while in three different locations in the city. They took notes on the sounds they observed while exploring the bustling hub of Shibuya before finding respite from the din of the city within a Shinto shrine. Afterwards they headed to Harajuku to hear the sounds of early evening and then tried their hands at making okonomiyaki (a Japanese savory pancake) at a local restaurant.
