Abigail Berk

University of San Diego

Professor Berk is a lecturer in the School of Business at the University of San Diego. While teaching undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students, Abby combines her passion for student engagement with her relevant practical and research expertise. Her classes in the School of Business and School of Leadership Studies cover topics such as ethics, leadership, organizational behavior, social entrepreneurship, corporate governance, sustainability, and corporate social responsibility. Professor Berk has consistently received the highest level of teaching evaluations at the University of San Diego.

Professor Berk’s research interests focus on the role of business in society and how businesses can make a positive impact through Corporate Social Responsibility.  Prior to her academic role, Abby enjoyed a successful corporate career in the United States and Europe that included positions in marketing, e-commerce, development, and management consulting. This real-life business experience is central to her current research and teaching.

Growing up in the Middle East and Europe, Abby developed an early passion for the joys of travel.  She spent a semester in Italy while an undergraduate at Stanford University and studied global business in Brazil as a graduate student at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Following the completion of her M.B.A., Abby was selected to participate in a Social Entrepreneurship program in the Yunnan province of China. At the University of San Diego, Abby traveled with a team of students for a business leadership study in Mondragon, Spain. In addition, Abby sailed as a faculty member on the summer 2014 voyage of Semester at Sea and enjoyed the opportunity to teach and travel with her family throughout Europe and Scandinavia.

Abby and her husband, Bill, and children, Chloe, Dylan, and Logan, are very excited to join the community of voyagers on Semester at Sea in Fall 2017.
