Psychologist

Adrienne Barna

Adrienne is a licensed psychologist and holds board certification in counseling psychology.  She has worked at George Mason University Counseling and Psychological Services since 1985, most recently as Executive Director.  Adrienne has provided individual and group counseling and crisis services to students plus consultation and training to faculty and staff.  In her clinical work, Adrienne draws from psycho dynamic and cognitive/behavioral models as well as mindfulness-based approaches.  She is a national trainer for the American Association of Suicidology best practices program, “Recognizing and Responding to Suicide Risk: Essential Skills for Clinicians.”  At Mason, she has helped to establish suicide prevention and anti-stigma programs.  Adrienne previously worked at Emory University and the University of Texas at Austin.  Her degrees include an AB from Drew University, a M.Ed. from Rutgers University, plus a MA and a PhD in Counseling and Personnel Services from the University of Maryland at College Park.  Adrienne and her husband, Al, sailed on the Summer 2009 and Maymester 2011 SAS voyages. They are very excited to join the SAS community on another amazing voyage.
