Assistant Professor

Ahmed Deif

California Polytechnic State University

Dr. Ahmed Deif an assistant professor of operation and supply chain management at Orfalea College of Business (OCOB) at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly). He is also a faculty fellow at the Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) at Cal Poly. He received his Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering from the University of Windsor, Canada. He received his B.Sc. from The American University in Cairo in Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Deif has a diverse portfolio in my industrial experience ranging from automotive industry where I worked at the R&D center at Chrysler Canada to steel industry to electronic industry and finally assembly industry at various engineering and consultancy capacities.

Dr. Deif teaching (as well as his research) interests are in the fields of supply chain management and innovation. I teach courses in these fields to all levels of students. He also teaches a lot of courses in process management (mainly Lean and Six Sigma courses). In most of his courses, he engages students through game-based learning where they play different games that mimic real business scenarios. Dr. Deif strives to make his classes as interactive, engaging and practical as possible.

On a personal note, Ahmed tends to see himself more as a global citizen. So in addition to being a world traveler (with around 60 visited countries), he taught at different universities in USA, Canada, Egypt, Brazil, Spain, and China. The best thing he enjoys is to interact with different students coming from different backgrounds and cultures. Ahmed speaks three languages (English, French, and Arabic). He likes to play all sorts of sports, (soccer, basketball, squash, volleyball and table tennis just to name few). Living in California made outdoor activities a big part of Ahmed’s agenda especially diving, surfing, and hiking. He likes reading history and philosophy books. When it comes to arts, theatre is Ahmed’s passion as he had been acting in school plays since elementary school. Ahmed’s favorite quote is: life is a onetime offer, so use it well.
