Global Studies Instructional Coordinator

Allie McGrimley

Ever since disembarking the MV Explorer at the end of her Fall 2009 voyage, Allie McGrimley has dreamt of returning to work for Semester at Sea. Her experience during her semester abroad had a tremendous impact on her as an individual and as a professional. The semester gave Allie a broader global perspective and instilled in her a newfound appreciation for learning. Allie was so inspired by her experience that she decided to switch her college major to an entirely new field. Allie graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2011 with a minor in Hospitality Management and Bachelor’s in History in 2011. She went on to earn her M.Ed in Secondary Education and CAGS in School Leadership through Southern New Hampshire University. Allie has served as a high school history and global studies teacher in the New Hampshire seacoast area for the past eight years.

Allie entered the education field with the goal of sharing a broader view of the world with her students to nurture their development as responsible global citizens. One way she has achieved this goal is through starting a school partnership and exchange program with a secondary school in Tanzania. Allie has led student trips to visit Tanzania for the past two summers and hopes to create more partnerships like this for the future.

In addition to teaching, Allie coaches swimming and field hockey as a way to engage with her students outside of the classroom. In her free time, Allie has a passion for traveling and enjoying the great outdoors through biking, hiking, camping, skiing, and any other adventurous opportunity! Allie is thrilled to have the opportunity to sail again and serve as one of the Global Studies Instructional Coordinators for the SP21 voyage.
