Dr. Amber Johnson is an Assistant Professor of Languages and Communication at Prairie View A&M University. Her research trajectory merges qualitative and rhetorical research design in the areas of sexuality and new media. Her focus is on narratives of sexuality and intersections of race, class, geography, education and beauty. Dr. Johnson is the guest editor for a special forum on sex and the performative possibilities of new media for Liminalities: A Journal of Performance Studies. She is also working on two projects, an edited volume on sex and digital media, and a poetry based performance piece on women of color in leadership called Codeswitching. Dr. Johnson earned her PhD from the Pennsylvania State University in Communication, and her M.A. and B.A. from Saint Louis University in communication. Her scholarship has taken her to international places including Ghana, France, and Spain. In addition to her scholarly endeavors, Dr. Johnson is a performance and visual artist. She specializes in spoken word poetry, jewelry design, photography, and painting. She lives in Houston, TX, with her husband, Tyus, and two children, Amare and Sukari.
