Andrea Meador Smith

Dr. Andrea Meador Smith is Assistant Professor of Spanish at Shenandoah University. She earned a BA in Spanish and an MT in Foreign Language Education from the University of Virginia in 2000; she later completed an MA and PhD in Spanish at the University of Virginia (2005, 2009), with a focus on Latin American literature of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Dr. Smith has published articles on 19th-century Spanish-language theater and poetry as well as contemporary Andean music and culture, and she serves on the editorial committee of the journal Miríada hispánica. She also has worked extensively with Spanish and Latin American film and helped create the Cine con clase Spanish film database (http://hitchcock.itc.virginia.edu/SpanishFilm/). She has twelve years of experience teaching Spanish language, literatures, and cultures, at all levels, and has traveled with students to Spain, Mexico, and Peru. A passionate traveler, Dr. Smith is anxiously awaiting her first voyage with Semester at Sea.
