Anna Carey is excited to sail once again with Semester at Sea for the Fall 2015 voyage. As a resident director for the Spring 1987 sail, Anna had the opportunity to circumnavigate the globe, learn much about the world, and develop lifelong friendships. Anna developed her interest in student affairs work while serving as a resident advisor as an undergraduate and her experience as a graduate student confirmed her love for higher education and the importance of providing the opportunity for all students to flourish and grow through learning. Anna has worked at the University of California, Santa Barbara in residence life, Chapman University in student activities, and has built a first-year experience program and office at Western Washington University where she serves as the director for New Student Services/Family Outreach. Anna has been an active member of NASPA and is the recipient of the Region V Mid-Level Professional Award and the Fred Turner Award for service to NASPA. Her close collaboration with the faculty at Western in the development of a common reading program has provided programming that engages the campus community at all levels. Anna is enthusiast about applying her experience to the assistant executive dean position and will be joined by her husband, Frank Miyazaki. She has a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Albany, and a M.Ed. from Bowling Green State University in College Student Personnel.
