Barbara Garvey is currently a Fellow at the Institute for Sustainable Social Change at Prescott College in Prescott, Arizona. She coordinates an educational program for adult Mexican nationals working on their education and learning English. She has enjoyed teaching ESOL to adult learners from a number of different countries. Another recent project of Barbara’s at the Institute has been holding Community Conversations in Prescott Arizona…bringing together people of differing backgrounds, different ages, different ways of thinking to talk with each other in order to find and develop commonalities. Barbara holds a Masters degree in Social and Multicultural Foundations of Education, from the University of Colorado.
This will be Barbara’s 6th Semester at Sea voyage, the third time as Lifelong Learning Coordinator. She says “Traveling around the world on past Semester at Sea voyages, learning about fascinating places has been absolutely amazing ….. and it is the community that develops on the ship, as we travel and learn together, that I value the most!” Barbara is looking forward to this upcoming summer voyage and working with a dynamic group of Lifelong Learners.
