Barbara J. Parker

Barbara J. Parker is Theresa A. Thomas Professor of Nursing at the University of Virginia. Her bachelors degree was from the University of Illinois. Her Masters and PhD from the University of Maryland. She has taught at Tuskegee University, the University of Maryland and the University of Virginia (since 1993). Her research interests include women’s health, intimate partner violence, pregnancy and childbearing, international health and family survivors of homicide. She has published over 100 articles and book chapters in nursing, medical and other professional journals. She is past president of the Nursing Network on Violence Against Women, International and the Southern Nursing Research Society’s Year 2000 Distinguished Nurse Researcher She teaches graduate and undergraduate students and has been an invited guest lecturer in Hong Kong, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. She enjoys combining travel with learning and playing with her grandchildren.
