Barbara Miller

Barbara Miller is an associate professor in the School of Communications at Elon University where she teaches courses in environmental communication, public relations and mass communication. She has written and co-authored articles in public relations and communication journals including the Journal of Advertising, Journal of Public Relations Research, and Journal of Mass Communication Quarterly. She has authored a book chapter on science communication (Routledge) and is authoring a book on the implications of business and industry advocacy campaigns on environmental efforts, political action, and public policy (Cambria). In 2010, she received a grant from the Arthur W. Page Center for Integrity in Public Communications at Penn State University to study ethical environmental communications. She has worked as an advertising account executive for a diversified client base, including industrial, athletic, medical, economic development, and tourism accounts. She earned her Ph.D. in mass communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a Park Doctoral Fellow and was named the 2006 Outstanding Ph.D. Graduate. She has a B.S. in journalism and a M.S. in journalism and integrated marketing communication from West Virginia University.
