After participating on the Spring 2007 Voyage as a student, Ben Justus was struck by the warmth and hospitality of the people in the countries he visited. Ben realized that he and others could use their backgrounds in hospitality to make a difference for underprivileged young adults in the developing world.
A year later, while a student at Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration, Ben founded EGBOK (Everything’s Gonna Be OK) Mission, an international non-profit organization alleviating poverty by enabling underprivileged young adults in Cambodia to be self-supporting by providing education, training and employment opportunities in the hospitality industry. Today Ben serves as the Executive Director of EGBOK Mission.
Ben previously served as an interport with two Cambodian EGBOK Mission students on the Spring 2012 Voyage. He has also regularly hosted SAS student groups to Cambodia. When not in Cambodia, Ben has spent time educating college students on his work and the hospitality industry in Cambodia. Ben has participated as a speaker for TEDx in both Hong Kong and at Cornell University.
Since Semester at Sea was such a life changing experience for him, Ben would like to be able to give back to the Semester at Sea community and looks forward to doing so on the Fall 2014 Voyage.
