Bill attended the University of Colorado in Boulder obtaining a B.A. degree in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. He then graduated from Dartmouth Medical School in 1985; completed his residency in Family Practice at Travis Air Force Base, California; and became board certified in Family Medicine. He spent the next 6 1/2 years serving the United States Air Force in Italy, Germany, and England traveling extensively throughout Europe during that time. Since then he has been doing Locum Tenens, covering short-term needs for various types of medical practices throughout the United States, New Zealand, and sometimes other parts of the world. Cruise ship assignments have included Alaska, the Bering Sea, Japan, Southeast Asia, the South Pacific, Central America, and Europe. He was the Semester at Sea physician for the Spring 2012 around-the-world voyage as well as two enrichment voyages in Central America and Europe. He is also a serious photographer, specializing in travel photography. Some of his photos have been published in National Geographic, National Wildlife, and American Photo magazines and have been displayed in the National Geographic Explorer’s Hall and the Smithsonian Institution.  He greatly looks forward to contributing to this upcoming journey with the students, staff, and lifelong learners aboard the MV Explorer.
