Brad Brown

Brad Brown is a member of the faculty at the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. He had extensive experience as a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy and in the business world before becoming an academic. He earned his BS from the United States Naval Academy, his MBA from the University of Maryland, and his PhD in Business Policy and International Business from the University of Washington (Seattle). Dr. Brown has taught in international programs in England, Finland, France, Denmark, Lithuania, Bangladesh, Nicaragua, and Vietnam. He participated in an earlier Semester at Sea voyage in 2014 and he has led students on over thirty short courses abroad studying economic development and sustainability over the past twenty years.

Dr. Brown’s teaching interests are in sustainability, social entrepreneurship, and business ethics. His research interests are in the areas of sustainable development, corporate social responsibility, and entrepreneurship (especially in developing countries). He has written numerous case studies for classroom use, and has published journal articles, cases, and book chapters.
