Carey Baxter

Carey Baxter hails from the wilds of beautiful Monkton, Maryland, where she grew up with her Mom, Dad, and dogs Angus and Nyles. She fell in love with words and stars at an early age and went on to graduate from Towson University in Maryland (’09) with Bachelor’s degrees in both English and physics. Having fallen in love with a boy, she soon moved all the way to downtown Los Angeles, California, where she now lives happily with her husband Josh (that same boy) and jade plant George. Since moving to LA she has completed her Master’s degree in English Literature from California State University, Long Beach (’14) and has near completed her teaching credential in physics. After the voyage she plans to begin teaching middle school physical science, having already taught English to middle schoolers in Ulsan, South Korea as well as at Los Angeles Southwest College. This will be Carey’s second full voyage; she previously sailed in Fall 2007 (as well as on two reunion voyages). She feels so blessed to be a part of this amazing shipboard community for the second time. Some of her favorite things to do include yoga, writing poetry and journals, hiking, traveling (especially by water), stargazing, and visiting museums, libraries, and diners.
