Chris Churma has worked in the field of international education since 2002 and currently serves as the Director of University Relations for the Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE). During his career, he worked for ISE as part of the Field Office team from 2002 to 2008, and rejoined the Institute in his current role in 2015 overseeing student recruitment and university partnerships. Prior to his return to ISE, he worked in study abroad at both the University of Minnesota and Colorado State University.
Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Chris has lived in Colorado for over eight years and currently resides in Boulder. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in educational policy and administration/international education and exchange from the University of Minnesota.
This will be Chris’s third full-voyage with Semester at Sea. He sailed as a student on the Spring 2004 voyage (serving also as a Student Assistant in Field Office) and as the Assistant Field Director on the Spring 2010 voyage. He is very much looking forward to returning to his Field Office roots for the Spring 2020 voyage, and being part of the life changing experiences voyagers have awaiting them! An added bonus is that Chris is able to share the voyage experience with his partner who has endured many Semester at Sea stories, reunions, and antics over the years who will now be able to have his own first-hand experience and become an alumnus!
