Chris is currently in his fifth year of teaching at Ellwood Elementary in Goleta, CA with a dynamic group of 24 4th graders. He received his Bachelor Degree of Liberal Studies with a teaching and learning emphasis at C.S.U. Channel Islands and earned his Master of Education Degree and teaching credential at U.C. Santa Barbara. Passionate about learning and technology, Chris incorporated gaming and collaborative based apps into the curriculum to enhance student learning, such as Minecraft for mathematics and history. During his third year of teaching, he was awarded the Santa Barbara County Distinguished New Educator Award and received numerous grants to sustain modern teaching practices. Chris has served multiple school and district wide committees ranging in community involvement, computer and internet distributions to families in need, mentoring University teacher candidates, and curriculum implementation. He is excited to extend his range as an educator in this new role as Dependent Children Coordinator and grow from the experiences the entire voyage has to offer.
