Chris is a Clinical Social Worker and has been a counselor for college students for most of his career at Colorado State University. He currently serves as an Assistant Director in Specialty Programs and Services and works closely with the School of Social Work, Women and Gender Advocacy Center, and CSU Athletics.
Chris took his time finding Social Work and after undergrad bartended and traveled the world. After hanging out with Peace Corps volunteers in West Africa, Chris returned and worked jobs in schools for students with emotional and behavioral disorders, and residential treatment centers. His graduate school internship was at the Counseling Center at CSU and he has been there ever since.
Chris has a passion for supporting students of all identities build insight and grow into the person they want to be. He has particular interest in working with students on substance use issues, gender identity, sexual orientation, mood disorders, and existential issues. He loves individual work, group work, and mindfulness meditation.
Chris is looking forward to the voyage though he feels some anxiety about bringing along his three children. His partner Jen Johnson will also be faculty on the voyage. He believes in the global classroom and looks forward to helping students feel comfortable and make meaning of their experiences.
