Originally from Denver, Colorado, Ciara’s love for exploration started early in life while spending a summer in Europe as well as participating in a short-term, high school exchange program in Japan. While attending Colorado State University as a student, Ciara participated on the Summer 2008 voyage of Semester at Sea and as an exchange student at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. These experiences sparked Ciara’s passion for promoting cross-cultural learning opportunities for all students.
Upon graduation from CSU with a B.S. in Business Administration and an International Business certificate, Ciara worked for several years in digital marketing. Pursuing her interest for international higher education, Ciara earned a Master of Higher and Post-Secondary Education at Arizona State University while working as an Academic Coordinator for CEA Study Abroad. In this role, she collaborated closely with international directors across numerous cities to facilitate the academic lifecycle for hundreds of U.S. students studying abroad.
Ciara’s love for Semester at Sea continued when she sailed as the Assistant Director for Field Programs on the Fall 2015 voyage. After this voyage, she returned to CSU where she is currently serving as Senior Education Abroad Coordinator in the Office of International Programs. In this role, she manages education abroad marketing and outreach, coordinates programming, and advises all CSU students studying abroad in Oceania and on Semester at Sea. Ciara also instructs the Intercultural Internship online summer course for students participating on international internships.
Ciara currently resides in beautiful Fort Collins, Colorado. When not traveling, she enjoys reading, music, sports, and spending time with family and friends. Ciara is also an avid hiker, summiting many of Colorado’s 14ers, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the volcanoes of Nicaragua, and she is looking forward to trekking in the Peruvian Andes in summer 2019.
Ciara is absolutely thrilled to return to Semester at Sea for a third voyage, and her second as the Assistant Director for Field Programs. She is very excited to set sail and contribute to the amazing and unique global experiences afforded to the shipboard community by Semester at Sea!
