What really happens on Semester at Sea: The truth about the lasting impact of the experience
Dan will present some of the research findings that focus on Semester at Sea and how the program compares with more traditional study abroad programs.
Dan Garvey has been involved with SAS for more than 30 years and will be sailing on his sixth voyage as the Executive Dean on the S17 voyage. Dan’s wife, Barbara has been a part of every voyage and will be the Coordinator of the Lifelong Learner Program. Dan will be teaching Sociology on the voyage. He is also a Professor and former President of Prescott College.
Dan’s dissertation focused on the possible effects of cross-culture experience on the ethical development of college students. He believes that Semester at Sea has the potential to help educate a group of learners who can positively change the world and influence decisions that benefit the common good.
