Debbie Ma is an Associate Professor of Psychology at California State University Northridge. She earned a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in Experimental Social Psychology, and she also holds a Master’s degree in English Literature. Her research examines the social cognitive processes involved in racial categorization, stereotyping, and prejudice. More recently, she has been researching biracial face perception. During the voyage, Professor Ma will be teaching Introduction to Psychology and Social Psychology – two courses about which she feels very passionate. These courses have been designed specifically for our voyage and will challenge students to think about universal and cultural patterns that shape human psychology in daily life. Professor Ma sailed as a college student on Semester at Sea in Fall 2001 and is looking forward to returning to shiplife after 19 years! She will be sailing with her spouse, Peter, and their two young children, William (6) and Alyssa (2).
