Deb is delighted to be returning to Semester at Sea to join the Fall 2015 voyage as the Assistant Dean of Students. Deb rejoins the SAS family after eight years leading the first-year residential community at Columbia University. Previously, Deb has been a part of the residence life teams at Cornell University, the University of Delaware and Drew University. Deb has been an energetic and creative leader in building programs, traditions and services for her staff and students, including the development and support of student leadership through RHA chapters on Cornell and Columbia’s campuses.
A native of New Jersey, Deb earned her Bachelors in English at Drew University in Madison, NJ, as well as her Masters in Counseling/ Student Personnel Administration and her Masters in Exceptional Children from the University of Delaware. Deb also “went to summer camp” for twenty years, teaching and residing with gifted & talented 4th-11th graders on college campuses all over the East Coast. Deb has also served in myriad positions on the board of the professional organization, College Student Personnel Association of New York State (CSPA-NYS). She is a former President, Conference Co-Chair, Newsletter Editor, and most recently, their Treasurer.
Deb’s passion for exploration and international travel began when she got on a sleeper train heading south out of Brussels with some college friends. Since then, she has traveled to 28 countries and six continents. Deb sailed as an RD for the “Red Sea” on the Spring 2000 voyage. She values the experiential learning that makes Semester at Sea such a unique and invaluable program, and is excited for all the new discoveries the Fall 2015 voyage will bring. Deb encourages all voyagers to make the most of our floating classroom and this life changing opportunity.
Outside of the “office,” Deb enjoys camping, hiking, and kayaking in the Adirondacks on Lake George, live music, photography and her boot camp classes. By far, her most favorite job is being Kyle and Lauren’s Aunt Debbie!
