Deirdre Bird is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at Providence College in Rhode Island. She received her Ph.D. in Marketing and Econometrics from Purdue University, Indiana; her MBA from University of Cape Town, South Africa; and her Bachelor of Economics from University of Natal-KwaZulu, South Africa. Her research interests are in marketing strategy and marketing of luxury products. She has been published in the Journal of Global Competitiveness, Business Research Yearbook, Competition Forum and other publications.
Deirdre is from Zimbabwe and has extensive international experience, having lived and worked on four continents. She has taught at graduate and undergraduate institutions in countries as far-ranging as Armenia, France, England and South Africa, as well as having taught on two previous voyages with Semester at Sea (F1998 and S2009.)
Dr. Bird is currently conducting research on development and marketing of luxury products in South Korea.
