Born and raised in Southern California, Derek moved to Colorado to earn his bachelor’s degree in Social Work at Colorado State University in 2008. In 2010, Derek also earned his M.S. in Student Affairs in Higher Education at Colorado State University. Derek is a true Res Life for life professional, and in his professional career, Derek has developed a passion for LGBTQIA equity, and social justice and cultural competency education.
Personally, Derek is an avid reality TV buff, runner, addicted to Starbucks tea, lover of typography, avid fisherman, and on the quest for the best brunch locations. Recently, Derek has grown an interest for BIG10 athletics, especially following college football and volleyball. He is excited to travel the world with Semester at Sea and anxiously anticipating being part of such a transformative experience!
