Shipboard Education has been a part of John Tymitz’s life since 1972 when he and his wife and family sailed on the Fall 1972 voyage as faculty members. He was then hired by Chapman College (now university) and served as the Associate Director of Operations.
In 1976 after Chapman discontinued the World Campus Afloat program, he was the co-founder of the Institute for Shipboard Education/Semester at Sea. He served as the President/CEO of ISE from 1987 to 2008.
He has sailed on numerous voyages over the years and is now a member of the Board of Trustees for the Institute. He has also served as Vice Chair and Chair of the Brothers Brother Foundation in Pittsburgh, PA, as well as Global Nomads Group in New York, and Mitchell College in New London, CT.
