Ezra Plank’s passion for student growth in the context of higher education began at Pepperdine University in 1996. After completing his B.A. and M.A., he served as a program coordinator and Resident Director for seven years. His interest in the study of religious traditions and specifically the role religions play in the formation of social structures led him to pursue a Ph.D. in Religious Studies from the University of Iowa, which he completed in May 2013.
Ezra is an avid believer in the power of international travel to cultivate informed perspectives, ethical reflection, and global-minded solidarity. He has traveled throughout South America, Europe, and Africa and has found each journey provided friendships and valuable insights into life. This will be his first voyage with Semester at Sea, and he looks forward to rich conversations with students as they experience the world and contemplate their place in it!
