Fernando Operé is professor of Spanish, and Director of the Latin American Studies Program at the University of Virginia. He is an expert on Latin American literature, colonial and 19th Century, and Spanish and Latin American Poetry. He has been the Director of the Spanish Department Theater Group for more than 33 years.
He has published thirteen books of poetry, the last one Around the World in 80 Poems (2013). He is also the author of several books of critic and history.
