This will be Professor Mabbutt’s seventh voyage with Semester at Sea. He is a retired Professor of Political Science from UCLA and California State University, Long Beach where he was the recipient of a Distinguished Teaching Award. He served as an teacher, advisor and author to the Presidential Classroom for Young Americans in Washington, D.C. and was honored by the University of Notre Dame as an Outstanding Educator of America. His publications include several books and numerous articles in law and scholarly journals, as well as political essays in other venues, such as The Nation. In addition to his world travels with SAS, he has traveled in much of Asia, Central America (including Cuba), Western Europe, Russia, and parts of Africa and South America. He holds two Master’s Degrees in History and Political Science and earned his Ph.D. with honors in Comparative Politics and Constitutional Law with a Pulitzer Prize winning historian from the Claremont Graduate School and University Center.
