Jawad Barghothi

Dr. Jawad Barghothi was born and raised in Jerusalem. He came to the United States to attend college and begin his career. He is a retired, full professor emeritus from Appalachian State University, where he taught for 33 years. He received his BA, MA, and Ph. D. degrees from Southern Illinois University and has since taught a variety of Political Science courses at Arkansas State University, Appalachian State University, Bir Zeit University on the West Bank, the University of the Americas in Puebla, Mexico, and on Semester at Sea. His areas of specialization are International Relations and Law, as well as Comparative Governments, with emphasis on the Middle East, and Terrorism. The course on Terrorism at Appalachian State University is one of which he initiated and developed. Dr. Barghothi has written numerous professional papers, has chaired many thesis committees, and served on a variety of professional organizations. Since retiring he has been in demand to lecture on cruise ships, and he has a special interest and concern for the Semester at Sea program and all the opportunities it provides. He previously taught on two fall semester voyages as well as serving as an inter-port lecturer on the Middle East for SAS.
