Jess is excited to set sail as the new Assistant Field Director on the Spring 2015 Voyage. A native of the Berkshires, Massachusetts, her love of travel was inspired from growing up in the family’s bed and breakfast and she spent her college summers volunteering at a wildlife rescue center in Ecuador’s Amazonian jungle. Upon graduation from Smith College, she completed a post-graduate teaching fellowship in Spain before serving for three years with the Peace Corps as a Youth Development Volunteer/Regional Leader in El Salvador. Her interest in sustainable, international development through service-learning and critical youth empowerment is a result of her many transformative experiences abroad.
Jess is now pursuing her Master’s in International Education at the SIT Graduate Institute. This past summer, she worked with the Experiment in International Living and co-led a group of U.S. high school students through a month-long language and cultural immersion program in Spain. She currently resides in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she is working behind the scenes at the Institute for Shipboard Education in the Academic Affairs and International Field Programs departments. Jess is thrilled to be part of the ISE team and begin an amazing journey with Semester at Sea!
