He joined the faculty of the Economics Department in 1978 and moved to the Department of Finance and Real Estate in 1982, where he taught at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, including in the Executive MBA Program in Denver and in the Distance (on-line) MBA Program. He served as a faculty member for Semester at Sea in 1989 and again in 2000, teaching courses in international finance, international business and economics. Pennock Distinguished Service Award for Excellence in Teaching, Alumni Association Best Teacher Award, Jack E. Cermak Advising Award and several college-level awards. He also served as department chair and for seven years as senior associate dean in the College of Business. John has long had a passion for travel to interesting places and has done research, teaching and consulting abroad. He taught finance courses in executive MBA programs at the Institute of Business and Economics in Moscow, Russia (twice – both times in the dead of winter!) and at Ecole Superieure des Affaires, Pierre Mendes-France University in Grenoble, France. He also taught an international finance course at Foreign Trade University in Hanoi, Vietnam. For the past 15 years John has been participating in a faculty exchange program funded by the US Department of Agriculture and the US Agency for International Development. Through this program he has traveled extensively in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Serbia on short-term assignments to conduct seminars and workshops on the market system and work with faculty members at universities in those countries. John is looking forward to sharing new and exciting learning experiences with students, faculty, staff and lifelong learners on the Fall 2017 Voyage.
