John’s love for exploring new countries, meeting new people and learning new cultures led him to pursue a career in international education. Influenced by his experiences studying abroad in Spain and China, he decided to take a teaching position in Japan upon graduating university. What was supposed to be a one year adventure living and working abroad turned into an exciting and fulfilling eighteen year career.
For the past twelve years, John has been working extensively in higher education designing and coordinating overseas study programs for Japanese students. To further deepen his understanding and appreciation for long term study abroad, he recently decided to take a break from traditional classroom teaching and volunteer as a teacher for Peace Boat. Peace Boat is a Japanese NGO that travels to over 200 ports and 80 countries promoting peace, human rights and sustainability through a variety of in port and onboard educational programs.
John is excited to be joining Semester at Sea and is looking forward meeting, traveling and learning together with everyone.
