Fall 2022: European, African, and Asian Adventure
Assistant Executive Dean

Julie Hurst

Julie is excited to sail again with Semester at Sea. She first sailed in Spring 2004 in the role of Assistant Dean of Student Life, and again Summer 2014 as Alumni and Development/Outreach Coordinator. She also worked in outreach and enrollment roles for the Institute for Shipboard Education in Charlottesville, Virginia. As a firm believer in the importance of relationship building, she looks forward to meeting and supporting students, faculty, staff and lifelong learners in the role of Assistant Executive Dean for Fall 2022.

Julie’s career in higher education spans more than 25 years and has included working in housing and residential life and education abroad. She is currently the Director of Campus Engagement within the Center for Community Engagement at Seattle University. Julie earned her M.A. in Cultural Studies from the University of Washington, Bothell and her B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Irvine (Zot!).

In addition to traveling, Julie enjoys spending time with family and friends, music, dancing, movies, and storytelling. She ranks her beloved “Terrible Towel” high on her packing list just after her passport, and hopes to photograph it in as many new locations as possible. She remains active with the Semester at Sea alumni community by serving in the role of chapter rep.
