Kathy Cummings passion for Semester at Sea combines her love for world travel and her career in education. This will be Kathy’s third voyage with Semester at Sea. She previously sailed as a Dependent Caregiver and Trip Liaison on SAS Staff in Fall 2018 and as the Lifelong Learner Advancement Coordinator in Spring 2020. Kathy is elated to return to Semester at Sea as the Lifelong Learner Advancement Coordinator for the Spring 2022 voyage.
She received her B.A. in Education from the University of Northern Colorado, an M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction from Lesley University, and earned her Principal Licensure in Educational Leadership from the University of Denver. Her extensive career in education includes being a teacher, school counselor, assistant principal and principal in Eagle County Schools in Vail, Colorado. Twice Kathy was honored as Teacher of the Year in her school district. She was also named the Colorado Educator of the Year and was a nominee for the National Educator of the Year Award. As a principal, Kathy led her school to become an Expeditionary Learning School which engaged students through experiential learning.
World travel, photography, cross-country bicycle touring, hiking, and alpine skiing are Kathy’s passions. She is excited to enrich the unique professional and personal learning opportunities for all voyagers as part of the multi-generational community on the Spring 2022 voyage.
