Dr. Katie is thrilled to join ISE after finishing her tenure as the International Relations and Global Engagement Director at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota. Previously she has sailed full voyages as the Assistant Dean of Students (SP15) and as a Resident Director (FA03) and shorter voyages as instructor, facilitator, alumni recruiter and guest.
While on land, Katie spend several years as an expatriate working with the Qatar Foundation/ Hamad bin Khalifa University in the State of Qatar. In addition, she helped run the Undergraduate Research Center at the University of Iowa and housing/student affairs operations at a number of institutions including Beloit College, Appalachian State University, and University of Alaska Anchorage. Additionally, Katie has taught undergraduate, graduate, professional development classes both domestically and in more than 35 countries. She has also completed research publications in the field and is often found presenting on international topics. Katie has extensive international higher and tertiary education consulting and travel experiences with extended time and residency in North America, Europe and Asia.
Katie received her B.A. in Advertising from Southern Methodist University, M.Ed. in Counseling from Clemson University and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa, in Educational Policy and Leadership Studies.
Katie is delighted to bring her daughter, Gretta, who learned to walk on the MV World Odyssey in 2016 and hasn’t stopped adventuring since! On this voyage Katie is excited to reintroduce her to China, her birth country. Katie’s mother Sandy, a recognized and veteran elementary teacher, will also join the shipboard community as a children’s educator, artist, and care-taker to her granddaughter.
