Laura Thompson, Ph.D., LPC, NCC has worked with students in university settings, both nationally and internationally, since 1994. Laura currently works as a Mental Health Counselor and Affiliate Faculty member at Regis University in Denver, Colorado. Additionally, she serves as an adjunct faculty member for NYU’s Department of Applied Psychology.
Laura is passionate about topics including international education, intercultural adjustment, college student mental health, mindfulness, and substance abuse and harm reduction within the college student population. She has conducted research on factors, including mental health, which impact drinking-related consequences for U.S. students participating in educational programs abroad. Prior to completing her doctoral work in Counseling and Counselor Education at Syracuse University, Laura spent seven years working in Europe with college students studying abroad.
Laura sailed on the Summer 2000 and Spring 2002 voyages as a member of the Residence Life Staff. In her free time, she enjoys taking adventures around the globe, cooking, reading, writing, spending time with friends and family, and staying active by running, swimming, skiing, and paddle boarding. Laura is most excited about getting to know students, faculty, and staff while continuing to expand her knowledge of the world.
