Leigh has had various careers. After attending St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY she substitute taught while her children were in school. She then owned her own yarn and needlework shop for twelve years in Canton.
In the fall of 1990, she took a leave from the business and accompanied her husband, Tom Coburn, to India on a semester consortium program with 18 students.
After selling the business she got interested in real estate for two years followed by her favorite job– that of the Alumni Relations Director at St. Lawrence. In 2003, she and Tom went to Boulder, Colorado, where he was president of Naropa University for six years and she worked in the development office. Retirement for both came in 2009 when they moved to Warren, Rhode Island, to be nearer their four children, 12 grandchildren, and the water! She loves to sail, garden, bike ride, hike, and travel.
