Lorraine Acker was born in Port of Spain Trinidad, but moved to the United States at a young age.
Lorraine is currently pursuing a doctorate in Higher Education at Iowa State University. Her research focuses on how women of color experience college.
Lorraine earned a Master of Science in College Student Personnel from Western Illinois University, a Bachelor of Science in African and Afro-American Studies and Political Science from the State University of New York College at Brockport.
Previously, Lorraine served as the Assistant Dean of Students for Minority Student Support Services and Women’s Programs and adjunct faculty in Women and Gender Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Lorraine is also an active member of the American College Student Personnel Association, a mentor for Big Brother Big Sister and a board member for the YWCA in Ames, Iowa.
She is very excited about her first Semester at Sea voyage as the Assistant Dean of Students and is enthusiastically looking forward to creating meaningful memories with students during this global experience.
Lorraine is also the mother to an energetic 3-year old son, Blake, who will be accompanying her on this voyage.
